Pre-match warm-up SSG's

The warm-up before the match is necessary to prepare the player physically and mentally for what follows. With this logic, it is good that the small competitive games that are always present in the content, specialize as much as possible in the conditions of the game. The usual image is 5vs5, usually in a corner of the playing field, which can be an easy solution, however, the players must necessarily be divided, in relation to their positions and duties in the formation and of course not randomly (e.g. if we have a 1-4-3-3 as a formation, the two 5s will be: on one side the 4 defenders and the defensive midfielder and on the other, the 2 inner midfielders and the 3 attackers). Also, the position where the game develops is important and should be placed on the central axis, as well as the formation must be observed. The dimensions can be approximately 30X25 m. and the execution time 2X2.5' (3'). Whenever required in the second set, we can change roles and positions to outside players. Let's look at some indicative suggestions, in relation to different formations:

Game 1:  Competitive game 4vs4+2 (yellows), for formations with 2 central midfielders (1-4-2-3-1, 1-4-4-2, ), so in the blue team we have the 4 defenders and in the red team, depending on the formation, 2 attackers and 2 wing midfielders (1-4-4-2) or the attacker and the 3 behind him (1-4-2-3-1).

Game 2:  In the sketch above we have 2 teams of 4 players and 2 outside-target players), in a vertical playing position. Based on the 1-4-2-3-1 formation, the red team consists of the 2 wingers, 1 defensive midfielder and the attacking midfielder. The blue team consists of the 2 wingers, 1 central defender and 1 defensive midfielder. The other central defender is an outside player (blue) and the central attacker is also an outside player (red). Perform 2 sets, alternating between the central defenders and the No. 9 with the No. 10, in the second set. In this way we have positions, angles and partnerships based on the formation and roles in the game. The players, maintaining their positions, move and transfer the ball between the outside players, in a game that focuses on vertical development.

Game 3:  In a different approach, for teams that focus on developing from the wings or formations with specific winger roles (e.g. 1-3-5-2, 1-3-4-3), in which case the outside players are placed on the side and can be the winger full-backs of formations with 3 central defenders or the 2 wing-backs or the 2 winger forwards in teams that focus on developing from their wingers.

Note:  Depending on the needs and tactical approaches, we can handle all the formations and roles of our players, creating simulation conditions in the warm-up of the match. Of course, competitive games in small spaces and relationships must be treated with the same logic, in each of our training sessions, in a comprehensive approach and exploitation of the individual parameters of physical condition and tactics.
